Educational Technology Leadership Philosophy

My curiosity to figure out how things work has led me to find great teachers in life, people that I look up to for learning and guidance. From the morals and hard work my parents modeled, to the teacher mentor that taught me to believe in my judgment as an educator. In every stage of my life, these mentors helped me achieve my goals and challenged me to figure out what is next. My main goal as an educator is to spark curiosity in my students, a thirst for more knowledge, the same way all my teachers did for me. My passion for technology and believe that technology is here to improve our lives carries on to my instructional style. Technology is being infused into every career field, and students need to be prepared to use technology to be successful in the 21st century. As a science teacher, I have tried to immerse my students in new technology through engineering practices and real-life applications of science. As educators, we need to provide our students with all the necessary tools to succeed in the real world. I believe that teachers also need to be given the appropriate tools to thrive, and for me, that is next.

Now, I have decided to embark on the journey of Educational Technology Leadership because I want to make an impact beyond the classroom. My vision as an Educational Technology Leader is to become a technology director and provide educators with the tools and training necessary to help students achieve their goals. Teachers need more than just login credentials to the next platform, they need proper training and professional development. Regardless of revolutionary advances to new educational technology, teacher training, and confidence in the platform is what ultimately determines successful implementation. I want to share my passion for technology, and help educators take advantage of all its benefits to teach our students and achieve equitable learning success.

"As educators, we need to provide our students with all the necessary tools to succeed in the real world. I believe that teachers also need to be given the appropriate tools to thrive, and for me, that is next."

Reflecting on my experience and my goals, I see myself as a Servant Leader. I have been lucky to have a sound support system around me, and because of this I want to help others reach their full potential. My goals in the classroom go beyond the academics; I try to support students and encourage them to follow their aspirations. Leading with the interest of the followers' needs as a priority is one of the main characteristics of Servant Leadership. Similarly, I would lead the teachers to fulfill their potential in the role of educators and prepare future educators to innovate in the classroom. My priority as an Educational Technology Leader will be to support teachers with their professional development so they, in turn, can help students be successful.

The Educational Technology Leadership doctoral program has already begun to expand my vision. Through this program, I am exploring new educational technologies, learning ways to implement educational programs, and support teachers in achieving equitable academic success.
